Procedure for Admission to a Russian University

1. Contact the admissions manager. When you submit the application, the admissions manager will contact you and give you additional instructions. You need to prepare and send the necessary documents.
2. Before arrival, you must have educational documents (certificate or diploma and transcript) translated into Russian and notarized.
3. When the university accepts them, the admissions manager writes an invitation. The letter of invitation, at the request of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation, contains information about your country and city of birth, city of residence, the city where your visa was issued, and your full home address. Keep in mind that the invitation lasts about a month and a half.
4. When you come to the university, both your certificate and diploma and your transcript must be legalized (approved). As you know, legalization – these academic documents are approved by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in the country where you graduated, and then approved by the Russian Consulate.
5. Remember to confirm that you arrived 2 weeks before the start of the program; otherwise, your registration will be canceled. It is not recommended that you purchase a plane ticket before obtaining a student visa.
6. Upon arrival in Russia, you must visit the visa department of the university (112/113 office, 1^st floor, 28 Grazhdansky Avenue). In the customs area, you have to fill out a migration card, and once the customs officer has stamped it, you have to keep it with you at all times until you leave Russia. Finally, visit the SPbPU (St. Petersburg Polytechnic University) admissions Office and provide the required documentation.

Useful Tips to Keep in Mind

All foreign students arriving in Russia must submit their passport to the visa department with a visa, migration card, contract (sent with the invitation) within 3 days after crossing the border of the Russian Federation. All foreign students must apply for a Russian student visa extension one month before the visa expires.
