Buran Pass (The Border Between Kinnaur and Shimla) is a mountain pass that separates Kinnaur and Shimla. Untouched Buran Ghati Walk is a less-traveled and less-known trek in the Himalayan central ranges. It has the most thrilling river crossings, high snow walls, stunning forests, boundless pastures, mountain peaks, and villages you’ve never seen before. Buran Ghati is without a doubt the most incredible and adventurous hike. The hike leads to a massive boardwalk in the heart of the snow mountains. Rappling begins where the stroll ends, and discovery begins where rappling ends.
Buran Ghati Trek is a diversified walk with a thrilling pass (Buran Pass) located in the heart of Himachal Pradesh at a high altitude of 15,000 feet. This spectacular excursion begins in Janglik and is perfect because it incorporates all of the activities, including Rapelling and sliding down a snow wall.

Day 1
Buran Ghati Trek’s base camp is Janglik. We begin our journey at Shimla, which is around 10 hours distant from Janglik, the base camp. The gorgeous trip from Shimla to our base camp, though a little long, is well worth the effort. It’s breathtaking to see how the roads run alongside a gorgeous river, and how the scenery changes through time to become even more attractive, as if to pleasure its guests.
As we travel from Shimla to Rohru, we pass through various tiny villages where the modest architecture of their dwellings and surroundings elegantly reflects their culture and heritage. Rohru is the final place you’ll find an ATM, and after crossing Rohru, you’ll have trouble finding a network on your phone. Soon after crossing Chirgoan, we can reach Tanglu through a gravel trail. Following there, the dirt route dives into the river and leads us to Diude. To go to Janglik, you’ll have to walk a little from Diude. Dinner and an overnight stay at a guest house or a homestay are included.
Day 2
Begin your journey by exiting the wheat fields and bidding farewell to the remaining few Diude cottages. As you gain altitude, you’ll be able to see Tangle, Diude, and other lovely villages clearly. Ascend gradually into the pine and oak forest.
The tree line recedes after a half-hour hike, and you come upon a stretch of grasslands. Climb to the top of the hill, which offers views of the mountains on one side and lush woods on the other. From here, gently descend on a wide route.
After an hour, return to the dense pine and oak forest, walk under the shade of the trees, listen to the leaves crumble, and continue on your way.
The trail steadily ascends until reaching Dayara. In around 4-5 hours, you will cover a total distance of 4 kilometres. After arriving at the campsite, stay in tents for the night.

Day 3
In the morning, after breakfast at the campsite, go exploring in the Dayara meadows. The trail from Dayara to Litham today passes through dense forests, enticing green meadows, and sparkling streams. The trail leads across meadows to Gunas Pass, where it enters the pine forest after fifteen minutes. Cross a brook and emerge from the jungle with breathtaking views of the Dhauladhar range and Gunas Pass.
The plains ahead appear magnificent and magical, and after half an hour, the trail passes through another Bhoj forest. Descend through this part to a brook where Litham can be seen easily. After the meadows, the trail leads to the Chandranahan brook, which must be crossed before reaching Litham.
There are numerous streams across Litham after you cross it and arrive at your campsite. The breathtaking mountain vistas will take your breath away from here. The Chandranahan Waterfall is to the left, and Chandranahan Lake is ahead. To the right are rocks with snow patches, behind which is Rupin valley, and in front of them are snow-covered mountains, with Buran Ghati behind them.
This is the last and largest meadow on the trail. Camp here and take in the breathtaking sights.
Day 4
Because there is a high ascent and descent today, we’ll start early. After breakfast, we’ll head to Chandranahan Lake for an acclimatisation hike before returning to Litham campground in the evening. It’s a thrilling and gorgeous trek, and you’ll have plenty of opportunities to take photos along the way. We’ll keep travelling upstream until we reach the source of the waterfall.
In the months of May and June, you can expect a significant amount of snowfall. As you approach the lake, you’ll notice that it’s a little smaller and is fed by the surrounding snowfields. Before returning to Litham, you can spend some time around the lake and take pictures of the panoramic views it has to offer. Because the descent to Litham is steep, you’ll want to start early in the morning so that you can arrive by lunchtime.
Day 5
While trekking to Dhunda after breakfast, the Buran Pass will be visible on the way. En route, the Dhauladhar range and Gunas Pass may be viewed.
The Pabbar River rapidly lowers, while the trail abruptly ascends. When you follow the river’s left bank, the trail becomes a gorge valley. Buran Ghati is visible from this vantage point. You’ll arrive at the Dhunda campground via the shepherds trail.
You will reach Dhunda’s ridge top after an hour of climbing. From there, you may take in the clear and spectacular views of Buran Ghati.
The campsite is surrounded on all sides by snow-capped mountains. Even in late June, remnants of snow can be found everywhere.
Day 6
This is the trek’s most thrilling, hard, and nerve-wracking day. Begin your journey to the River Camp early in the morning. The pass is completely covered in snow during the pre-monsoon months, making it impossible to pass, but the snow melts during the post-monsoon months, i.e. September and October, making it much easier to cross. Near the base of the Buran Ghati pass, the trail is strewn with boulders, and the pass is an hour’s ascent, almost entirely on snow. The finest part is yet to come: the supposedly fatal tumble down the opposite side. The descent is exceedingly difficult and requires the use of a rope. An ice axe would be extremely useful in this situation.
Because of the steep slope, you lose a lot of altitude quickly, over 3,000 feet. The snow line disappears after two hours, and the trail descends to juniper clumps and some magnificent flora. The entire valley is covered in a thicket of greenery, with massive, towering mountain peaks dominating the skyline beyond. After an hour of descent and a stream crossing, you’ll arrive at the River camp, which is located around the first several cabins.
Day 7
The walk to Barua village features a diverse range of vegetation as well as dramatic variations in scenery. As it meanders through lovely mixed woodlands, follow the widest of the routes that follow the Barua Khud. You’ll arrive at a makeshift bridge within 2 hours, guided by the gorgeous junipers that line the path. Treat your eyes to a criss-cross of gorgeous flower purples once you’ve reached the other side. You’ll soon come upon your first apple orchard. As you approach Barua, you will see numerous apple and other orchards.
